SAFFRON RAYS
What's it all about?
Saffron Rays restaurant has been serving top quality Bengali and Asian cuisine to Silver Street locals for over 30 years. The atmosphere inside is relaxed and friendly and the food is reasonably priced - a combination that's helped Saffron Rays to survive, despite stiff competition from the newer canalside eateries.
Mani appointed Kuljit Singh as manager when he went on an extended trip to India, helped (or hindered) by Vinnie. Now Kuljit's gone Vinnie's in charge but Mani keeps a close eye on his wayward nephew. But as long as Pradeep Chauhan remains in charge of the kitchen you're guaranteed to get some fabulous food.
Most likely to see there:
Vinnie - Chatting up the girls out front Pradeep - Head chef and Saffron Ray's best asset. He's been after a pay rise for years Mani - Saffron Ray's is like his second home
Classic moments:
- Jaggy having a meal with Tina - his bit on the side - and making her pretend to be his cousin. - Dr Masud and the Maliks getting covered in Dhal when Kuljit and Sway had a big fight - All the ovens blowing up when Vinnie forgot to get them serviced.
Did you know?
Saffron Ray's was established by the well-known tabla player Mani Ray. Mani played with lots of bands in the '60s and '70s, including The Beatles.
And another thing...
Chef Pradeep Chauhan won the Mela curry competition for two years in a row.
