Third Ear - Richard Deacon

A year after his 1987 Turner Prize triumph, sculptor Richard Deacon talks to Andrew Graham-Dixon about his creative process and the thoughts and ideals that drive his art.

An artist at the forefront of New British Sculpture, the wave of UK sculptors who emerged during the early 1980s, Richard Deacon is known for using materials from man-made sources to reflect his interest in aspects of the human figure. Plywood and vinyl are employed to create works named with titles that refer to cliches of modern language and draw attention to the layered textures within Deacon's art.
