The Late Show - Anthony Caro
The Late Show appraises the ground-breaking work of Sir Anthony Caro to coincide with a series of his exhibitions. Various artists and art critics share their views, discussing the impact of his career on the world of sculpture and the effect of his break with former mentor Henry Moore on his later work. Now, years on, the sculptor may also be the catalyst for further changes in the art world.
Sir Anthony studied engineering at Cambridge to appease his family, who disapproved of a career in art. However, after serving in the Fleet Air Arm during World War Two, he enrolled at art school and subsequently worked as an assistant to the sculptor Henry Moore in the 1950s. He was knighted in 1987 and received the Order of Merit in 2000. He died in 2013.
