Special Assignment - Homosexuality In Britain

Some gay men and lesbians believe that the the freedom from oppression that they experienced in the 1970s was damaged in the 1980s by the paranoia that followed the new fear of Aids and by anti-gay legislation, such as Section 28. Increased militancy by members of the gay community served to draw attention to the issues, but it also split opinion as some believe the activities of groups such as OutRage! do more harm than good.

In this edition of Special Assignment, Niall Dickson investigates different viewpoints on the state of gay politics. The report looks back at the history of homosexual law reform in the UK, and asks what is still to be changed before true equality can become a reality.
