Role Play - Hamlet
In the last of the series in which actors discuss the key roles in their repertoires, theatre critic Michael Billington investigates Shakespeare's greatest character, Hamlet. Offering their own interpretations are actors Michael Pennington and, fresh from directing and starring in his own film adaptation, Kenneth Branagh.
Michael Pennington appeared as Laertes in director Tony Richardson's 1969 film version of 'Hamlet'. Also in the cast were Nicol Williamson (as Hamlet), Judy Parfitt (Gertrude), Anthony Hopkins (Claudius) and Marianne Faithfull (Ophelia).
