Open Book - Pat Barker

Pat Barker tells Mariella Frostrup about the themes that run through her work and her desire to explore darker subjects, such as war, mental illness and violence. Barker discusses her creation of character and her enjoyment of constructing dialogue. She also reveals her aim to write about sex with a directness and vigour that many authors shy away from.

The third volume of 'The Regeneration Trilogy', titled 'The Ghost Road', was awarded the Booker Prize in 1995.
