Meet Mary Pickford and Gloria Swanson
Mary Pickford and Gloria Swanson (pictured here in 1925 and 1931 respectively), discuss how their careers began and dispel some of the myths surrounding their image. They also share their views on the impact of talking pictures, introduced in the late 1920s, both on their own working lives and the film industry as a whole, reflecting on the magic of the silent-movie era, which began even before Hollywood was established.
At the time of this interview, conducted by Robert Gladwell, Gloria Swanson had resumed acting after virtually retiring in 1934.
