Germany Calling - The Voice of the Nazi

Wolf Mittler, James Clark and Richard Kupsch were all Anglo-German Nazi sympathisers who worked with Joyce broadcasting German propaganda to Britain during the war. On coming to realise the full extent of Nazi aims, all three men left their posts and subsequently faced arrest by both the Germans and the British. Reporter Denys Blakeway captures their memories as they reflect on this time, returning to their Berlin studio, which was also visited by PG Wodehouse during the war.

PG Wodehouse was captured by the Germans as he was living in France when war broke out. Initially interned in Belgium and Poland, in June 1941 he was 'released' and taken to Berlin, where he was tricked into making humorous broadcasts on German radio to the United States. Consequently, Wodehouse was falsely accused of being a Nazi collaborator in Britain, although an MI5 investigation later found him innocent. It seems the Nazis freed Wodehouse and portrayed him as a sympathiser to gain favour among his American supporters, with the ultimate intention of keeping the US out of the war.
