Football Legends - Tommy Lawton

Bolton-born Tommy Lawton started his football career at Burnley after deciding that the life of a butcher's boy wasn't for him. He moved to Everton to play alongside his idol, the great Dixie Dean, and international honours soon followed, as did stints at Chelsea, Notts County, Brentford and Arsenal. Renowned for his skills at heading the ball, he delighted crowds throughout the post-war years and was rated by Stanley Matthews as England's greatest ever centre-forward.
