Book Club - Penelope Lively

Penelope Lively talks to James Naughtie about her childhood in Egypt, her writing process and the main character in 'Moon Tiger'. Members of the book group at Nightingale House residential home and Edwina Currie join in the discussion as they dissect the novel and talk about history, Egypt and literary sex scenes.

Nightingale House was originally established in 1895 as a home for elderly Jewish people and since 1908 has been based in Clapham in a building and grounds gifted by Lord Wandsworth, the Viscount de Stern. It is one of the largest care homes in Britain and most of the residents are over 90. Edwina Currie chaired the Nightingale House book club and previous guests have included Beryl Bainbridge and PD James.
