Bird's Eye View - Wales: the Western Stronghold

With dramatic mountain ranges, great rivers and natural resources, Wales has a landscape steeped in history and lore, evidenced by its many megaliths, forts and castles, which date back over 5,000 years. Its people are said to retain characteristics from both ancient Britain and the Mediterranean.

Narrator Rene Cutforth was a foreign correspondent for the BBC, reporting from some 74 countries on a diverse range of events including the Korean War and the Dalai Lama's escape to India. During the Second World War, Rene served in the Army and was seconded to the Ministry of Information. He was wounded and captured in North Africa, and taken as a prisoner of war to Italy and Germany.
