Adventures in the BBC Archive - Stella Rimington
Dame Stella Rimington, formerly director general of MI5, delves into the BBC archives to explore the murky world of the Cambridge Spies and a period of espionage that was not only to rock the British establishment, but also to reverberate throughout her own professional life.
Dame Stella was the first female head of the British secret service. She was also the first to be officially named and photographed during her time in charge. Dubbed the 'Housewife Spy' by some of the tabloid press, she served as director general of the Internal Security Service from 1992 to 1996.
