Hello and welcome to BBC Xtra English.

Today’s story is about ‘compers’- people who enter lots of competitions to win as many prizes as possible.

BBC presenter, Jane Garvey, spoke to some ‘compers’ and described them as a dedicated bunch who want to clean up all the prizes that are available.

However they may not always win the prize of their dreams – it’s all a bit hit and miss.

Some of the prizes are very exciting – new cars and exotic holidays. However others are more mundane – a year’s supply of loo roll!

One woman explained that the key to winning is quantity not quality. Another woman described it as her retirement job.

Some of these people spend several hours a day entering competitions and their winnings can reach as much as £8,000 per year.

Are you a ‘comper?’ Do you enter competitions to win lots of prizes? Or do you think it’s a complete waste of time?

No, I'm not a comper, I think it's a big waste for my time, also I think it's not a right way to earn money or prizes, I think the only right way for earning money or even prizes is by working hard and doing really useful things.

I always dreamed of winning a very big prize but what happend to me in the past few months that I entered a compotition ,Igave my name and my mobile phone number in order to contact me in case I win the copotition , but Idiscovered that I was a victim of an organized theft of my mobile phone account, Icuold not stop them so I was forced to change my SIM card and I swore not to enter a competition again Basma Al Hadithy, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
