Roles and responsibilities
- Valerie was the Chief HR Officer, and also had responsibility for Internal Communications
- She was responsible for the design and implementation of the BBC's HR strategy to ensure that the BBC has the right people in the right roles, performing at their best
- Alongside this she also led a team responsible for the delivery of a full range of HR functions, including internal communications and engagement, recruitment, employee relations, remuneration and benefits, leadership development, organisation design and change management, diversity, HR administration and policy
Biography

Valerie has over 30 years operational HR experience, including many years working as a Group HR Director in large, complex organisations of a similar size to the BBC.
Prior to joining the BBC on 1 August 2014, Valerie was Group HR and Communications Director for Amey, a £2.3bn organisation with 21,000 employees. She worked at Amey for over five years and prior to this was Group HR Director for Steria based in Paris. Valerie has also worked as Group HR Director for Xansa.
Her earlier career started at Selfridges as a Graduate trainee and then Personnel Manager. She subsequently spent 12 years at EDS in a variety of European HR roles, including four years living in the Netherlands and working as Northern Europe HR Manager, and latterly returning to the UK as UK HR Director.
Valerie graduated from Birmingham University and is a Fellow of the CIPD.
