Fiona is the Deputy Global Director of BBC News.
Biography
Fiona was appointed Deputy Global Director in December 2024. In this role, she leads on the BBC’s innovative approach to new language offers, runs the BBC World Service regional production hubs and its investigative content including the award-winning documentary series, BBC Eye.
Prior to this, Fiona was one of two World Service Language Controllers responsible for the 42 languages services of the BBC World Service. Language service output makes up just under two thirds of the BBC's global news audience and operates with staff based in 50 countries. She ran the World Service’s newsgathering teams around the world.
Fiona is responsible for creating the BBC's 100 Women initiative and Dars, the multimedia education programme for children denied an education, inspired by the banning of girls from school in Afghanistan.
Fiona has previously worked across the BBC as field producer, at the BBC News website, the BBC News channel, Newshour and Panorama.
