Riot police tackle pub disturbance
A police car
A city centre pub was damaged in a distrubance.
Riot police were called in to deal with dozens of drunken football fans in Cardiff city centre on Saturday afternoon.

Around 50 officers kitted out in riot gear moved in to escort visiting Barnsley supporters ahead of their team's Division Two clash with Cardiff City.

Police on horseback were used to quell minor skirmishes after a disturbance at a city centre pub which police say was left considerably damaged.

Part of St Mary Street was closed off and three people - two from Cardiff, one from Barnsley - were arrested.

About an hour after police moved in, around 60 Barnsley supporters were escorted to Ninian Park for the match.

Drugs

South Wales Police said about 360 visiting supporters were in the city.

One of the Cardiff men arrested was aged 26. He was held for violent disorder.

The second man was aged 35 and was arrested for a public order offence.

A 33-year-old man from the Barnsley area was arrested for a drugs offence.

Police made arrangements to escort the visiting fans to their coaches after the final whistle and no further incidents were reported.

The game ended in a one-all draw.
