| Thursday, 16 January, 2003, 14:20 GMT Theatre sorry over panto drenching ![]() Phyllis Rowe was sitting in the front row A grandmother who was soaked when a pantomime clown threw a bucket of water over her has received an apology from theatre officials in Swansea. Phyllis Rowe, 82, was sitting in the front row of the Goldilocks and the Three Bears performance at the city's Grand Theatre when she was drenched last Friday.
A spokesman for the theatre said Mrs Rowe's complaint was the only one since the pantomime started on 18 December. The show, which stars TV star Lisa Riley, will run until Sunday 26 January. "It is the first complaint we have had," said assistant manager Gerald Morris. "We offer our apologies to the lady for any distress caused," he added. Mrs Rowe, from Gorseinon in Swansea, said the water had been a "real shock".
"I expected to be showered with confetti but was drenched with cold water instead," she said "It was freezing outside and I was ringing wet - it was uncalled for. "And I wasn't the only one to get wet," she added. No contact Mrs Rowe said she did not want to miss out on the show after the incident. "I nearly got up and walked out but thought why should I after paying to get in," she said.
But she complained that, although the theatre had issued an apology, she had not been contacted directly. "They have said they have apologised, but they haven't personally apologised to me," she said. Mrs Rowe's son-in-law David Evans said the incident had been an unpleasant experience. "You wouldn't expect that in a pantomime," he said. "She wasn't expecting it - to be hit by cold water isn't nice," he added. | See also: 28 Dec 02 | Wales 11 Dec 02 | England 22 Feb 02 | Asia-Pacific 16 Oct 01 | England 17 Dec 01 | Entertainment 13 Sep 01 | UK Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
