| Monday, 30 December, 2002, 10:24 GMT Flooding hits train services ![]() Services between London and south Wales have been affected Mainline passenger train services between south Wales and London have been hit by flooding. More than 10 services between Cardiff and London have been cancelled due to flooding in the Chipping Sodbury tunnel between Bristol Parkway and Swindon.
From early Monday morning, hourly services in both directions between south wales and London Paddington were cancelled by First Great Western and other services were diverted, adding to journey times. Meanwhile, residents in Monmouth were given a flood warning by the Environment Agency, as the River Wye burst its banks. Farmers have been urged to move livestock to higher ground and householders told to remove items of value from flood-risk areas. Wales remains on flooding alert with four full flood warnings and six flood watches in place, with other areas also on the agency's monitoring list. By 1300 GMT on Monday, Environment Agency Wales had one flood warning - the second highest alert - and 18 lesser flood watches still in place across the country. In North Wales, there is a flood warning for the lower Dee Valley between Llangollen and Chester. Flood watches Areas with flood watches include the rivers Aeron, Bran, Towy, Rheidol and Teifi in mid and west Wales. But the situation across Wales is improving. On Sunday night, there were seven flood warnings in place across Wales. The Environment Agency has given the all-clear after previous flood watches on the rivers Ewenny, Llynfi, Solva, Mawddach, Neath, Ogmore, Wnion and Western Cleddau.
