There is still no sign of a south Wales father-of-two who went missing after a Christmas drinking session with workmates a week ago.

Richard Davies, 39, from Blaenavon, was last seen by friends in Cardiff city centre last Friday night.

His family say Mr Davies' disappearance was completely out of character, and his wife Michelle made an emotional appeal for information about him on Christmas Eve.

Police are studying CCTV footage

Police say they are still conducting "extensive inquiries" into the disappearance.

Officers are viewing CCTV tapes from one club and other premises in Cardiff city centre in an effort to track Mr Davies's movements.

Gwent police are liaising with South Wales Police in the investigation.

Their job is being made more difficult because there were more than 200,000 people in the city last weekend.

Separated

Officers said they were "keeping an open mind" about what might have happened to Mr Davies and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

He failed to return home after becoming separated from friends shortly before 2300 GMT last Friday.

Meanwhile, South Wales Police are investigating reports that a man was seen in the River Taff near the Millennium Stadium at around the same time.

Detectives are not linking the two cases but have not yet ruled out the possibility that they may be related.

Trip with friends

Mr Davies's wife and children Justin, 13, and Charlotte, 10, are left at home waiting for news about him.

Gwent Police said he left home at 0900 GMT last Friday morning for the trip with a group of friends.

They first went go-karting in Newport at midday then caught the 1600 GMT train to Cardiff where they drank at a number of city centre bars and pubs until around 2300 GMT.

Officers said there was no disagreement among the group and that Mr Davies was not seen to have left with anyone else.

He was last seen at a bar called Reflex in St Mary St.

He was wearing navy trousers and a light blue shirt at the time he went missing.

Mr Davies is described as being 5ft 11 inches tall, of medium build and has brown hair.
