Frank Lloyd from Gresford near Wrexham will ride 25,000 miles across 20 countries, five deserts and four continents over 95 days.

There will be 21 riders competing in the World Challenge race, which has been organised by Powys based world record holder Nick Sanders.

Forty eight-year-old Mr Lloyd said they have a tight schedule.

"We arrive in New York on the 5 August and we leave the following morning.

"We drive to Niagra Falls and then on to Canada, down through to Vancouver, to Seattle and then we go through Oregon, to Utah and to Las Vegas."

After Canada and America the group will tour Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India Turkey, Western Europe and North Africa.

Frank has toured Europe before during holidays with his wife Jan but he has never undertaken such a massive expedition.

"To actually circumnavigate the globe on my own bike and visit places that I would not normally do is great, " he said.

Mr Lloyd added: "Fortunately my wife is very understanding, she appreciates what I want to do and she saw it as a chance in a lifetime.

Mrs Lloyd even agreed to fund her husband's three month trip.

Bike enthusiast

"She was aware that she was being made redundant and she said we can buy a new car anytime, so she gave me her redundancy money."

The teams will ride between 400 and 1000 miles a day.

They will ride around in groups of three and have to complete a number of check points.

The bike enthusiast added: "You can see so much more because you're in control of your own speed, you can see what's going on."

"There's something about the bike fraternity, you turn up on a bike and there's someone else on a bike and you will get talking within a short space of time, no matter what country you are in."

The teams will finish their tour in France by catching a ferry to Dover and riding back into London to reach the finishing line.
