| Wednesday, 10 July, 2002, 17:37 GMT 18:37 UK Workers worry over steel future Cardiff manufacturer Allied Steel and Wire has gone into receivership, threatening up to 1,300 jobs at the UK's second-largest steel producer. BBC News Online asked workers facing an uncertain future about their feelings as they left the morning shift after hearing the news.
Bob Calder
We've just got to sit back and see if the government are going to help us, the same as they did with British Steel. The whole workforce at the moment is in a state of shock and despondency.
Gary Owen
The whole industry is the same. I reckon there is less than a 20% chance of saving the place.
Vince Douchi
I'll still come into work tomorrow unless I get a phone call telling me not to. |
