Cobain inspired 'suicide' note
Kurt Cobain
The girl's 'suicide' note was inspired by Kurt Cobain
A teenage girl allegedly pushed into attempting suicide by her boyfriend was herself fascinated by tragic Nirvana songwriter Kurt Cobain.

The girl, 15, said in court the rock singer, who took his own life in 1994, looked like her former partner, and she spoke of Cobain in an alleged suicide note.

Her ex-boyfriend, 15, denies the rare charge of attempting to procure her suicide on 29 January, when she fell 25ft from a jetty at Aberystwyth, west Wales.

I called him my dark-haired Kurt Cobain

Neither teenager, both of whom were schoolmates, can be named in his trial for legal reasons.

It is claimed the boy - said to be obsessed with serial killers and satanism - talked the girl into jumping from the jetty in a suicide bid while playing truant from school.

Suicide claims

They had gone to his home, where the girl had drunk a third of a bottle of tequila, Swansea Crown Court heard.

He then allegedly prompted her to write a suicide note, dicated by him, and he timed and dated the letter.

It was said he walked her to a jetty on Aberystwyth's seafront, where she later fell, suffering head and brain injuries and losnig all her teeth.

She revealed to the court Wednesday she was a fan of Kurt Cobain, saying she was attracted to her boyfriend because of his similar appearance to the late Nirvana singer.

"I called him my dark-haired Kurt Cobain."

Cobain's words

Defending, Michael Fitton, asked the girl if she knew about Cobain's suicide; she answered that she did.

School books belonging to the girl also contained doodles and references to the singer, the jury heard.

And the girl said some words from her alleged suicide note referred to those used by Cobain, whose grunge band pioneered the genre, rising to supreme fame, which became unmanageable by the frontman.

He said he wanted me to be free. He wanted me to jump off the end. He would break down. He is lying, I am telling the truth

"'Empathy' would have been mine because it's [one] of Kurt Cobain's. Kurt Cobain used that word a lot," she said.

"I can't tell you which was mine and which was [the boy's]. I was drinking continually when I was writing it."

But, when Mr Fitton said the girl had earlier sent a text message to a friend about cutting herself, she denied she had ever harmed herself.

Instead, she said, she pleaded with her boyfriend at the jetty's edge when she realised what was happening.

"It was going though one ear and out the other. He wasn't listening to me," she said.

"He said he wanted me to be free. He wanted me to jump off the end."

'Beautiful eyes'

When Mr Fitton claimed she was exaggerating, she said: "You get somebody to ask him questions. He would break down and do you know why? Because he's lying and I'm telling the truth."

The couple had met a fortnight before the alleged offence and spoke in a telephone conversation, when the boy allegedly clamide to be a "borderline psychopath" who went on "man hunts."

The girl said he was "really sweet" and had "beautiful eyes."

Prosecuting, Paul Thomas, previously argued the defendant had an unhealthy interest in characters including killer Charles Manson, saying police found extreme graffiti on his bedroom wall.

He denies the charge and the trial continues.
