A motorcyclist caught speeding at 155mph - the fastest ever recorded on a police camera - was like "a blur" to other motorists.

Lee Beddis, 34, was picked up on a speed camera on his Y-registration Honda motorbike on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road, south east Wales.

A traffic police officer said the pressure wave from the speeding motorbike shook his patrol car.

At Cardiff Crown Court, Mr Beddis, a mechanic from Blaina, south Wales, admitted dangerous driving on the A465 between Gilwern and Abergavenny, a known accident black spot.

Told that he had escaped jail because he had a son, Beddis was sentenced to 180 hours community punishment and disqualified from driving for 12 months and also ordered to pay �25 prosecution costs.

Motorist John Bartlett told the court: "All I saw was a blur passing me at immense speed. He was going so fast I couldn't make out what kind of bike it was or what he was wearing. It gave me a scare."

Prosecutor Jane Rowley said: "Beddis was spotted by Pc Greville Phillips riding at very high speed on the 60 mph road. As the bike passed his parked police car it shook from the pressure wave."

In a statement, Pc Phillips confirmed that the incident had been the fastest speed captured by police camera on a British road.

He said: "In 25 years I've never seen such a high speed. the car shook as the bike went past."

Lee Ingham, defending, said: "It was a moment of spontaneous madness as he overtook vehicles before his turn off.

"Beddis owns a garage and his main hobby is riding motorcycles. He is not usually given to driving dangerously."

Judge Isobel Parry said: "I'm not jailing you because you have a nine-year-old son to support."
