Scanning the news and the web to pick out Welsh stars making headlines across the world. Although the domestic football and rugby seasons may be over in Wales, sport is still sparking rows within the Zeta-Jones/Douglas household. With their son Dylan, now aged two, his film star parents are already arguing over which sport he should take up.
At a sports award ceremony in Monte Carlo - also attended by BBC Wales's X-Ray presenter and new mother Tanni Grey-Thompson - Douglas said he wanted Dylan to play tennis or basketball, but admitted: "Catherine is into what you call football, so I think she would most like him to do that." A Welsh FA spokesman responded by saying it would be "great to see Dylan growing up to become a soccer star". Meanwhile, Now magazine has been reported that CZJ has just registered a film production company, going by the name of Milkwood Films. The article also said that she has bought the rights to a script called Coming Out - which tells of the goings on at a local rugby club. Whatever the future for Milkwood, CZJ can only hope for a fraction of the success that Star Wars has enjoyed - the latest episode came to Cardiff on Wednesday with a charity premiere. At the event, Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable took time to say the band will be back in the studio in October - after playing festivals during the summer.
In the meantime, a live video and DVD, called A Day At the Races, will be showing in cinemas prior to its release on Monday 27 May - catch it at 7pm in the UCI in Cardiff on Friday 24, or the following night at the UCI in Swansea. Another DVD on the way is the Fellowship of the Rings, and John Rhys Davies - playing dwarf Gimli in all three Lord of the Rings movies - was spotted at a special US party to release details about the discs by the Aintitcool news website. As mentioned last week, Rhys Ifans is currently out in Australia filming Danny Deckchair with Patricia Arquette and Tim Robbins - about a man who decides to escape his problems on a chair lifted to the skies by helium balloons, to start a new life where ever he lands. The Sun website has got a picture from the set - check out the link on the right 3am warning Elsewhere, a lot of excitement is brewing over the new series of Big Brother - but we can only wait to see if any Welsh contestants will be in the new-look house. Not that last year's representative Helen has shown any signs of disappearing - the bubbly blonde was spotted shopping at the Cannes Film Festival with boyfriend Paul Clarke by the Welsh Mirror's 3am team. But the 3am girls also carried bad news for ex-Steps girl Lisa, from St Asaph, this week.
Not only has her band disappeared from around her, but it seems her fianc - dancer Johnny Shentall (who recently joined pop band Hear'Say with Cardiff's Noel Sullivan) - may be on his way too. The Mirror girls claim that "love rat" Johnny cheated on Lisa with his fitness teacher while Lisa was out in the States promoting her brothers band 3SL. Happier tidings for GMTV's Pembrokeshire's Fiona Phillips though - she has given birth to her second son, who is yet to be named and a brother to Nathaniel who will three in two weeks - and EastEnders actress Charlie Brooks, from Barmouth - she has been celebrating her 21st birthday with fellow cast members Dean Gaffney (Robbie), Michelle Ryan (Zoe) and Lucy Speed (Natalie). But the final word goes to Eurovision favourite Jessica Garlick, who has also been popping up everywhere as she prepares for her big night in Estonia on Saturday. Not only has the 21-year-old from Kidwelly, been doing interviews, such as one for M magazine in which she tells of her love for teddy-bears, but she also appeared on An Audience with Lulu, backing up the ever-young Scots songbird alongside a frock-wearing Frank Skinner. Best of luck to her! | See also: 16 May 02 | Wales 13 May 02 | Wales 15 May 02 | Wales Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
