Bill Wiggin
Bill Wiggin

Date of birth

4 June 1966

Political profile

Bill Wiggin comes from something of a Tory dynasty; his father Jerry was the MP for Weston-super-Mare for over twenty years and his uncle was also an active Tory.

Like many of the new Tory MPs in 2001, he was educated at Eton.

His previous career is as a banker and currency trader, and he cites this as informing his euro-scepticism.

When he stood in the hopeless seat of Burnley in 1997, he was one of the Tory candidates who defied John Major to announce that they were opposed to Britain ever joining the single currency.

Mr Wiggin has also served as an officer in the Territorial Army.
