| Monday, 17 February, 2003, 20:05 GMT Historic pub to be restored ![]() Little of the building survived the fire A historic pub in Herefordshire, which was gutted by a fire more than 18 months ago, is to be restored to its former glory. The Seven Stars Pub in Ledbury was destroyed in July 2001 and the fire spread to nearby Co-op Travel and a clothes shop. At the height of the fire, 70 firefighters from Hereford and Worcester were at the scene. The town has been waiting for restoration work to begin ever since. Little of the building, some of which dates back to the 16th Century, survived the flames so English Heritage has granted permission for the pub to be totally re-designed by local architect Peter Taylor. However 70% of the pub's original timbers were saved after the fire and it is hoped these will be used in rebuilding works. Officials hope the Severn Stars Pub will open to the public this autumn. | Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
