Web search for pet homes
Rescue dogs at West Hatch
Some dogs need specific types of home
People looking for a pet to adopt can now view homeless animals on a Somerset website.

Dogs, cats and small animals at the RSPCA's West Hatch Animal Centre near Taunton are featured in the line-up.

Centre manager Sally Neale said the website would never replace personal visits.

But prospective owners might spot animals they would like to meet by browsing through the details in advance.
Rocky a Jack Russell
Rocky is described as "strong-willed"

Rocky, a Jack Russell, is among the first pets to be featured.

He has been at the centre for seven months after being found attached to a rusted chain in a back garden.

He is described as "a little dog with a huge character".

Ms Neale said: "We always insist that people come and meet their prospective new pets and undergo the normal RSPCA home visit.

"However, looking at the animals on the web prior to travelling to our centre is a good way to search for a new pet and can save a wasted journey.

"I anticipate we will find it a useful way of rehoming long-stay animals who need specific homes."

The site also gives information on the history of the West Hatch centre, the procedure for adopting an animal and the work of the wildlife hospital which shares the site.
