West joins global peace protest
Demonstration in Bruton
People in Bruton wanted to express their 'distaste'
Thousands of people from across the West joined the mass demonstration against war in London on Saturday.

In Bristol, 3,000 people turned out early to travel to the capital.

Nearly 70 coach loads left the city centre before 0900 GMT to join the national protest.

Some of those who could not make the journey staged a local demonstration.

Protesters queue for caoches in Bristol
More than 3,000 people left Bristol for the London march
The small Somerset town of Bruton came to a standstill as hundreds of families took to the streets.

Organiser Louise Somerville Williams said it was important for the community to express itself.

"The people of Bruton decided to demonstrate against any planned war in Iraq.

"We consulted local people and those with small children, the elderly and the disabled felt they wanted to do something in their own town.

"For many, a trip to London was not an option.

"This is one way for people to express their distaste at the British government's plans to invade."
