Liverpool has been dubbed "Livercool" by a style magazine that says the city is currently the hottest place to live in the UK.

Tatler has devoted 22 pages of its latest issue to capturing the "hip" vibe of the city.

The feature was inspired by fashion editor Isabelle Blow's first visit to Liverpool for the biennial festival last summer.

She said she fell in love with the city's sense of style and particularly the fashion sense of its women.

The article features girl-band Atomic Kitten and model Lady Eloise Anson, niece of the Duke of Westminster.

It also mentions Merseybeat actress Joanna Taylor as an honorary scouser, despite only living in Merseyside for four years.

Jourdy Greig, the magazine's editor, said: "We think Liverpool is the hotspot to be at the moment.

"It's going through another renaissance and that Mersey beat has just infected us.

Heritage status

"We came up and we had the most incredible time with some of Liverpool's great characters and great fashion muses.

"We hope in this month's Tatler the joy and vitality, elegance and sexiness of Liverpool comes through strongly."

The "city of cool" accolade follows the government's decision to nominate Liverpool's waterfront as its only recommendation for World Heritage status.

The city is also bidding to become European Captial of Culture in 2008.

Regeneration of the city centre is also planned under a �700m scheme from the Duke of Westminster's Grosvenor Estates company.
