Plan to close GP surgeries
Doctor's stethoscope
The proposals are still in the early stages
Plans have been put forward to close all 28 of Blackpool's doctors' surgeries and replace them with larger medical centres.

The proposals, which would affect every GP and patient in the town, have been put forward by the Blackpool Primary Care Trust.

They want to build six new medical centres to replace the smaller surgeries.

It is understood that the plans are still at an early stage.

'Modernise facilities'

The Blackpool Primary Care Trust says it has held a private meeting with GPs to look at the idea.

It says the aim is not to reduce services, but to modernise facilities and improve the delivery of healthcare to local residents.

There has been no firm commitment made to the plans.

The Trust is to meet doctors again at the end of March for further discussions.
