| Tuesday, 4 February, 2003, 13:20 GMT Brothers head for Patagonia ![]() Oliver and Julian will be away for two months Two brothers from Somerset plan to retrace their great-grandfather's steps by exploring Patagonia in a Victorian manner - including wearing traditional costumes. Julian and Oliver Campbell, from Norton-sub-Hamdon, are setting out on Thursday for a two-month trek through the South American wilderness. The inspiration behind the trip comes from great-grandfather W.O. Campbell, who published a book called Through Patagonia in 1901, detailing his many exploits. They will use only Victorian-style instruments and equipment - ignoring the chance to use high-tech satellite guidance and modern clothing.
Oliver Campbell, 27, told BBC News Online: "We want to get back to the original way, with not much between us and the environment. "We also want to see if we are as tough as our great-grandfather - but we won't kill ourselves doing it." The aim is to head from Buenos Aires on a scenic route to Mount Fitsroy, with the help of a guide where necessary. The brothers will keep a video documentary of their adventures. | See also: 26 Oct 01 | Wales 25 Jul 01 | Americas 11 Jun 01 | Wales Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
