A 50-year-old man has been remanded in custody in connection with alleged sex offences against a 14-year-old girl.

Sethton Derek Allen, of Shakespeare Street, Derby, was arrested by police following an incident in the Tynedale area of Northumberland on Friday night.

Mr Allen appeared at Hexham Magistrates Court on Monday facing charges of attempted rape, gross indecency and indecent assault on a girl under 16.

It is alleged Mr Allen met the girl after an internet chatroom session.

Mr Allen did not enter any pleas and the hearing was adjourned until 3 February when he will appear at Newcastle Crown Court.
