A Northamptonshire man heads to the Canadian Arctic in February to compete in one of the world's toughest races.

Rob Bayman has spent months training and packing on extra body fat for the 100-mile Yukon Arctic Ultra Marathon.

He told BBC Look East he was taking part in the race to make life a bit more exciting:

"It'd be a dull life, wouldn't it, if everyone was the same and did the same things.

"You just enjoy giving yourself little challenges."

Mr Bayman's challenge will consist of a three-day trek in temperatures of about minus 40C while he drags his supplies in a sled behind him.

He is one of only 18 people in the world who will compete in the marathon.
