Call to improve children's cancer ward
Medical staff
Improvements planned for Ward ten at the hospital
The father of a child who died of a rare cancer at St James's Hospital in Leeds is calling for facilities to be improved.

Jonathan Abbott says the care his seven-year-old son Joshua received was excellent, but facilities on the children's ward are poor.

Joshua was treated at the hospital for T-Cell Anaplastic Lymphoma, where, despite excellent care he died form the disease in October 2002.

But now his father is calling for the facilities on the chidlren's Oncology and Haemotology ward - ward ten - to be improved.

Mr Abbott claims the lack of efficient air conditioning on the ward means it is "stuffy and uncomfortable" for the patients.

The Leeds Teaching hospitals NHS Trust says it is planning to install a Hepa-filtration air conditioning system on the ward.

The Trust is also undertaking a feasability study into building a new children's hospital in the city.
