| Wednesday, 22 January, 2003, 16:57 GMT 14m plan for deprived area
Up to 14m is set to be spent on the Ashton New Road area over the next 10 years, following its designation as a renewal area by the city council. More than 10,000 homes will be built in the area, which is close to the City of Manchester stadium, host venue for the Commonwealth Games 2002. Currently the area is blighted by derelict and empty homes and the cash grant has come after the public were consulted on housing needs. Residents' greatest concern during the consultation was on the size and quality of homes available in the area. Work is due to start in the next few weeks to improve the outsides of homes along Ashton New Road, the main route through the area. | See also: 06 Nov 02 | England 06 Sep 02 | England 24 Jul 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
