Transport chiefs will gather at Leeds Town Hall on Wednesday to discuss the use of yellow buses for school runs.

The region wants to increase the use of the American-style buses to try to eliminate any "stranger danger" posed to youngsters using public transport

Two yellow bus schemes already operate in West Yorkshire, at Hebden Bridge and Ilkley.

They offer a safe form of transport for schoolchildren because only youngsters on a driver's register can travel and each run would have a nominated crew whom the youngsters would recognise.

The Leeds conference, hosted by the region's transport co-ordinator Metro, will be able to view two yellow-painted service buses and an imported American version.

These vehicles will be on public display in front of theTown Hall.
