Shopper's epic journey to return scent
Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's
Hepburn's character Holly Golightly adored Tiffany's
A British tourist who bought the wrong perfume on a shopping trip to New York has flown all the way back to exchange it.

Annie Barden mistakenly bought the men's version of her favourite fragrance at the upmarket store Tiffany and Co.

When she phoned the London branch they told her they could not exchange goods from abroad.

The 47-year-old from Southampton then decided to make the 3,000-mile trip back to New York to change the 65 bottle of Tiffany's own brand scent in person.

Everyone thinks I am slightly mad

Annie Barden
Ms Barden, who runs a business services company, said: "I flew out to New York with my daughter Claire to spend a few days shopping and having fun.

"When I got home and unpacked I was very upset to find that I had been given the men's version.

"The shop assistant in London joked that as I did not even have the receipt the only way I could exchange it was to fly back to New York and ask them directly.

"I loved the smell of the perfume so much I thought 'why not'?

'Gorgeous' smell

"So a few weeks later I flew out to New York again and went straight to Tiffany's.

"Everyone thinks I am slightly mad but, believe me, this fragrance is gorgeous."

The elegant store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan was immortalised by Audrey Hepburn in the film Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Hepburn's character Holly Golightly said she felt "nothing bad could ever happen there".
