Security railings at Bristol crematorium
Broken statues
Statues were broken in the attack in September 2002
Railings to protect the graves of 150 babies could be erected at a Bristol crematorium after vandals smashed statues and wrecked momentoes.

The 1.5 m high fence around the baby section of the South Bristol Crematorium is being proposed by the city council after the vandals struck in September 2002.

The railings would be painted green, with trees and hedging planted to soften the impact.

Parents would have a key for entry, and are now being invited to comment on the plans.

Councillor Helen Holland, deputy council leader, said: "We are determined to do whatever we can to ensure that this type of vandalism does not happen again, without creating an unwelcoming environment for people who visit the baby garden."

People are asked to submit their views in writing by the end of January to the South Bristol Cemetery.
