| Wednesday, 15 January, 2003, 16:18 GMT Drivers to face more bollards ![]() Seven sets of rising bollards are already in place More rising bollards could be installed in the centre of Cambridge to stop cars from entering certain streets. The city already has seven sets of the bollards, which are automatically lowered by an electronic tag given to taxis and buses. Since the first set was installed in 1992, several cars driven by unwary motorists have been damaged by them. Now the city council is putting new proposals out to public consultation to close Silver Street at certain times of the day. April decision The road links the city centre to routes leading out of town. Councillors are due to take a decision on the scheme in April and work could begin in the summer. Planners are also considering bollards for King's Parade, where existing traffic restrictions are frequently ignored by drivers. Currently, bollards are in place in the city centre on Bridge Street, Emmanuel Road, St John's Street and Senate House Hill. | See also: 09 Nov 02 | UK 22 Oct 02 | England 30 Jun 01 | Politics Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
