| Sunday, 12 January, 2003, 10:20 GMT Plans to promote organ donation ![]() Voters are being urged to register as donors Residents in Stockport could be asked to become organ donors at the same time as registering to vote. Details of organ donation may be sent out with electoral forms, if the council plans are given the go-ahead. Councillors in Stockport are to consider the proposals at a meeting on Monday night. It would mean every home in the borough would receive a letter setting out the benefits of signing up to become an organ donor. It would be sent out in September with the electoral registration form. The council says many organs are lost in the immediate aftermath of a death because donors had not discussed their wishes with their families. The leader of Stockport Council, Mark Hunter, said organ donation can be a "powerful legacy" and that the proposals are aimed at local people who might want to become donors. | See also: 11 Dec 02 | England 21 Oct 02 | Health 25 Sep 02 | Politics 08 Jul 02 | Scotland Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
