Rise in drink-drivers offenders
Drink drive checkpoint
Devon and Cornwall Police breathalysed 327 drivers
The number of people in Devon and Cornwall caught drinking and driving over Christmas increased this year.

Devon and Cornwall Police breathalysed 327 drivers over the festive period.

Of those, 48 people were found to be over the drink-drive limit - four more than the same period last year.

More than 80 calls were made to the Crimestoppers information line to tell police about suspected drink drivers.

The force's traffic policy officer, Sergeant Andrew Webber, said it is up to everyone to help stop those who take to the road while over the alcohol limit.

He said: "I think we have to be careful about people using the phrase 'grassing up' because this is really the public doing a duty."
