Residents welcome new drainage system
Severn Trent drainage system
The new drainage system will prevent future flooding
A group of residents in Worcester are celebrating after a flood free Christmas and New Year.

Residents in Waverley Street in the Diglis area of the city have faced having their homes and street flooded with sewage whenever the River Severn rises.

But Severn Trent Water has spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on a new drainage system nearby which should prevent any further flooding.

Mary Dhonau
Mary Dhonau campaigned for action
It will be opened on Tuesday by Diglis resident Mary Dhonau, of Worcester Action Against Flooding.

Ms Dhonau headed a campaign for action, which included residents of Waverley Street lobbying Downing Street.

She said: "When it rains hard, irrespective of what time or year it is, we get incredibly tense.

"Now the relief of knowing, as a result of our lobbying - and let's face it, had we not lobbied, had we not gone to Downing Street and jumped up and down and caused a fuss, this pumping station would not have happened."
