Textile firm cuts jobs
Richard Roberts textile factory
Manufacturing at the site will end next year
Leicester's largest textile firm is closing its factory with the loss of 300 jobs.

Richard Roberts Knitwear says it has been forced to move production overseas to compete with low-cost imports.

Two months ago the firm launched a consultation process amid fears 200 jobs could be lost.

About 180 staff were given notice and are now in the process of leaving the factory.

A further 120 workers will also go over the next six months with manufacturing at the Vaughan Way site ending by May next year.

More than 100 staff will remain in Leicester working in design, administration, sampling and in the warehouse.

There are 50 workers at the firm's Loughborough site and 300 at its factory in Nottinghamshire.
