A funeral is to be held for a young woman whose 100-year-old remains were washed up on a Hampshire beach.

The woman, thought to be aged between 17 and 20-years-old when she died, will be buried in a church cemetery after a service next week.

A dog-walker found the remains washed up on the shore of Warsash beach on 16 November.

Forensic tests showed the body parts were more than a century old.

The woman's identity and cause of death remain a mystery after a coroner decided no inquest should take place due the age of the bones.

It was originally thought the site at Warsash had been used as a burial site, but experts have dismissed this idea.

Historian Dr John Stedman said: "You wouldn't deliberately bury a body on the foreshore because you would expect it to be exposed by the tide."
