| Friday, 22 November, 2002, 18:41 GMT In pictures: West Bromwich factory fire A major fire at a disused factory in the West Midlands caused traffic problems and threatened to spread to a petrol station before army firefighters gained control. ![]() Traffic quickly built up on approaches to the West Bromwich area with smoke visible from miles away ![]() The police sealed off streets surrounding the fire including the Black Country Spine Road ![]() One Green Goddess had to stop pumping water when its engine overheated ![]() Army personnel managed to get close into the fire as they struggled to bring it under control ![]() The fire was kept away from a petrol station just yards from the burning factory ![]() But nothing could be done to save the buildings on the industrial estate |
