The lunchtime Latin club at Hopton-on-Sea first school began in September. Headteacher Rosemary Barker said the club had proved popular, and filled a need for pupils learning to read and write. "Children today need to extend their language skills in as many ways as possible, and Latin is another way of doing that," she said. Ms Barker said she would like to extend the classes in the future. She said the goal was to offer pupils the chance to learn Latin not as an add-on club subject, but as part of their regular curriculum. | See also: 24 Sep 02 | Entertainment 13 Aug 02 | UK 21 Feb 02 | South Asian Debates 19 Jun 01 | Education Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
