| Thursday, 14 November, 2002, 09:29 GMT Flood alerts issued for South ![]() River levels will remain high all day Flood warnings have been issued for Dorset and Hampshire, as heavy rain and high winds cause flooding in much of England. Riverside properties at Gillingham and at Chew Magna are at risk, as are properties along the Middle and Lower River Stour, from Hamoon to Christchurch. There are also warnings for the West Dorset area including Charmouth, Bridport, Beaminster and Burton Bradstock. The warnings are of particular concern on Thursday morning, as Green Goddess teams will not be attending flooded properties. Help will instead come from coastguards. Further flooding The Environment Agency has warned that river levels will remain high for the rest of the day and any further rainfall could cause further flooding. In St Ives, Cornwall water levels rose by over five feet overnight as the River Stennac burst its banks. People were moved from houses and pubs and an inshore lifeboat had to be used to rescue those who were stranded. The Environment Agency advises that people should ring Floodline on 0845 988 1188 for up to date flooding information | See also: 14 Nov 02 | England 13 Nov 02 | England Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
