| Tuesday, 12 November, 2002, 09:30 GMT Mining subsidence closes railway ![]() A landslide caused by subsidence has closed a stretch of railway track in Derbyshire. Railtrack has called in specialist mining engineers to help examine the track between Langley Mill and Alfreton. A mine shaft is believed to have caused the subsidence. Operators say buses will take passengers from Langley Mill to catch trains from Chesterfield or Nottingham. Shaft collapsed Midland Mainline says some train services will be diverted. It is not known exactly when the line will re-open. Midland Mainline spokesman Jed Burgess said: "Every once in a while a mining shaft collapses and we have to live with the consequences." The subsidence was first noticed on Monday morning.
