Historic hotel damaged by fire
Fire engine
Around 35 firefighters were called to the scene.
Fire has damaged a landmark hotel in Lincolnshire.

Firecrews were called to the historic George Hotel on the High Street in Stamford at around 1500 BST on Monday.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said a build up of fat in an extractor fan caused the fire.

One person was taken to hospital but they were released after a check up.

Building evacuated

The kitchen and its contents were severely damaged but other parts of the building were saved.

The Fire and Rescue service sent 35 firefighters to the scene.

The hotel was evacuated and police closed the road outside.

The George is one of the oldest hotels in Britain, dating back at least 900 years.

Large parts of the building are medieval.
