Five teenagers have been arrested in connection with an alleged race attack on a 27-year-old man.

The victim, of Indian descent, claims he was beaten with a cricket bat and an iron bar in Trevol Road in Torpoint just before midnight on Thursday.

The assailants are said to have shouted racial abuse during the attack before making off with a mobile phone, watch and 100 in cash.

The man was taken to Derriford Hospital with head injuries but was later released.

The five youths are being questioned at Charles Cross police station in Plymouth.

Man stabbed

In a separate incident, police are investigating the stabbing of a man in a Plymouth park on Thursday night.

A 17-year-old was walking through Victoria Park with his 15-year-old girlfriend at about 2110 GMT when he was attacked from behind.

The man who attacked him is described as being about six feet tall and was wearing a dark beany hat.

The assailant ran off in the direction of Stuart Road.

The teenager was taken to Derriford Hospital where he received stitches to the wound.
